Protecting and providing for your home and family is becoming easier every year with new technology. This equipment makes you feel like a superhero and like you are in more than one place at a time. Here are a few ideas to get your house up-to-date and into the twenty-first century.
Smart Lock. If your children come before you, make their journey a bit easier with a smart lock. This lock allows you to monitor who enters and exits your house. Unfortunately, every child (and adult) gets locked out at least once but with a smart lock, you can unlock the door with your phone. You can also assign unique “keys” to different people. For instance, if you have a maintenance person coming over and you will not be home, you are able to assign a specific key for that person. You can also check your phone to see at what time the key was used.
Nest thermostat. Control the temperature of your house with your cell phone. Now, you don’t have to get up to a freezing house in the winter. You can turn up the temperature from the warm cocoon of your bed. You can also set timers that work with your schedule. Always up at 6 am? Set the Nest to start warming the house at 5:30. Out the door by 7 am? Set the nest to Away Mode to drop the temperature down while the house is empty. Program the time you are due home and Nest will have the house nice and cozy by the time you arrive.
Amazon Echo. This handy device works with a variety of smart home devices to better streamline the technology in your home. You can use Amazon’s Alexa to control almost all of your tech devices using just your voice. You can ask for a song, make hands-free calls, or check the weather and traffic for the day. Alexa can also pair with your smart locks, light bulbs or switches, and even your garage door!
Furbo. With this product, there is no need to miss your pet throughout the day. The Furbo keeps tabs on your animals through a camera that lets you see what your dog is really up to all those hours you are gone. You can even fill the device up with treats and press a button on your cell phone to give treats to your dog when you are not home.
Nest Protect. Tired of a smoke and carbon monoxide alarms that can’t tell the difference between smoke and steam? Nest Protect is the answer. It gives a warning before the alarm goes off and also alerts your phone. It even has a light sensor so you won't have to stumble around in the dark.
Sengled Pulse Smart Bulb. These light bulbs are sure to be a hit with your kids. They not only shine light but they also each contain a hidden speaker that plays music wirelessly. The bulbs work in normal light sockets and can be controlled through an app on your smartphone.
LG Instaview. If you are someone who can never remember how much milk you have, a smart refrigerator is the appliance for you. It allows you to see what is in your fridge in real time. This refrigerator has an interactive bulletin board on the front touchscreen. And if that isn’t enough, it can read your recipes out loud to you while you are cooking. It can also play music and tell you the weather. Some can even order more groceries from Amazon prime or add items to the shopping list.
Surveillance cameras. This camera goes beyond the normal surveillance features. It has a two-way radio and sound-triggered recording and allows you to store video locally on a USB drive. It is connected through wireless so you can place it in a wider variety of places, letting you know what is always going on in your house.
Roomba. The Roomba has never looked this good. This mobile robot vacuum has a camera for navigation, a smartphone app that tracks where it cleaned, and is connected to Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice controls.
Samsung Curved TV. Take television watching to the next level with a curved television screen. This television can turn your house into the newest hot spot for the big game or season finale of The Walking Dead. It gives you the best possible picture from every angle, reducing the glare from windows or lights.
Intelligent Oven. This oven makes it nearly impossible to burn your food, turning even a novice cook into a chef. It calculates the cook time and temperature for any food you put in it, making it easy for your kids to make a quick afternoon snack or dinner.
Mockett Plugs. These pop-up units are great for adding some extra outlets to areas like kitchen islands without creating additional clutter. They also eliminate safety hazards associated with cords hanging off the edge of the counters.
